Tower Theatre presents

Booster Jab

This collection of monologues and duologues is selected from the ‘Vaccine Programme’ strand of the Tower Theatre’s festival Love [and Survival] in a Time of Covid – playing across three Hackney venues from 25 June – 18 July.

The festival invites submissions from the local community in celebration of the human spirit through lockdown, promoting communal healing after a difficult year for all.

The Vaccine Programme consists of 21 pieces programmed in 6 performance clusters with performances ranging from works involving professional artists to first time members of the public. The strongest pieces are showcased here in this Booster Jab.

This performance will contain:

Abney Park by Simon Christian, directed by Simona Hughes
The rugged beauty of Abney Park provides inspiration, solace and a meeting ground for three strangers struggling with their lockdown lives.  Can the trees and plants really read their minds?

Condensed, written and performed by Anthea Hill
A wry, funny and dark monologue taking you through the ins and outs of a relationship with a chaotic, seductive, epicurean and narcissistic flatmate in the depths of lockdown. Part poetry, part prose, this piece explores what happens when we allow ourselves to throw caution to the wind and truly dredge the bottom of the barrel.

One for the Road by Tamara von Werthern
A nurse takes a much needed cigarette break.
Cast : Angharad Ormond
Directed by Ruth Sullivan

Cry Freedom by Menesh Patel
For years Sulli has awaited the day she will turn 60 and qualify for her Freedom pass. Then Covid came along and Tfl went and changed the rules. But Sulli will not give up on her freedom …
Cast : Sangita Mogdil, Matthew Ibbotson
Directed by Simona Hughes
